Is meditation dangerous?

While the vast majority of studies reports positive effects, there is also some indication of risks. It has been reported that suppressed anxiety can come up during meditation or be induced by the intensive confrontation with one’s inner life. In persons suffering that already suffer from emotional instability meditation can lead to a further de-stabilization. In general, a too intensive meditation practice („over-meditation“) is not recommended, unless it take place in a save environment under competent guidance. Sometimes, non-ordinary experiences and so-called spriritual crises can give rise to feelings of insecurity. The following institutions offer conseling and support in these cases::
